The style essay assignment has been posted to the materials section.

The peer review worksheet for the synthesis essay is now available from the materials section.

11 November 2003, Tuesday

Materials for the synthesis essay have been posted. They include:

  1. The assignment itself;
  2. "Politics and the English Language" by George Orwell, with accompanying study questions; and
  3. Study questions for Jorge Luis Borges's review of Citizen Kane.

29 October 2003, Wednesday

The peer review worksheet for the third essay is now available in the materials section, and the syllabus has been updated to reflect the new course schedule.

26 October 2003, Sunday

A handout on logic has been added to the materials section. This short piece outlines the most common logical fallacies found in English papers.

21 October 2003, Tuesday

The materials section now contains handouts for the persuasion section of the course. There you will find your next essay assignment, as well as study questions for essays by Neil Postman and Gore Vidal.

13 October 2003, Monday

The peer review worksheet for the second essay has been posted to the materials section.

A brief guide to MLA citation written by the OSU libraries is also available.

Additionally, an email containing the peer review worksheets and essays for the large group workshop was sent out to the class list. Please mark up the drafts and fill out the worksheets for Wednesday.

A sample descriptive essay has been added to the materials section.

5 October 2003, Sunday

The second essay assignment and study questions for Marx and Engels have been posted to the materials section.

By way of reminder, your packet of items from the first essay assignment is due tomorrow.

The review worksheet for the first essay has been posted to the materials section. Please fill out one copy for the demo workshop essay and for each member of your small workshop group.

21 September 2003, Sunday

The syllabus has been updated to reflect the following changes:

First, the Comparison essay is now called the Synthesis essay. Second, the order of the essays has been changed from Personal Narrative, Description, Synthesis, Persuasion to Personal Narrative, Description, Persuasion, Synthesis. Revised due dates can be found in the syllabus.

Additionally, the first essay assignment is now online. All of these updates can be found in the materials section.
