About johnmcox.org
Let's drop into Q & A mode here.
What is this site?
Primarily a clearinghouse for my projects. I write and code, and since both of those are public activities, I like to have a place to put both completed projects and works-in-progress. Putting my work up lets me share whatever parts people find useful. It also gets me peer review, which makes the work better.
So you want feedback.
Exactly. Feedback is what makes both open source programming and peer reviewed academia valuable. If you find a bug in my code or a confusing patch in my writing, I'd like to hear about it.
What's in it for me?
Personal satisfaction. Better reading and better code to download.
Any terms of use I should know about?
Yes. I like to keep things fairly open, but there are some restrictions. Here's the drill:
- Fair use for the writing. If you'd like to reproduce a piece in its entirety, contact me first.
- For the code, terms vary project to project. Some of the programs I host here aren't owned by me since they were written while I worked for the University of Michigan. The code owners and my coauthors have graciously decided to leave the licensing fairly open, but there are some caveats. More details can be found on the projects page as well as in the code itself.
If you have any questions about how you can use any of this site's content, just send them my way.
